Jean Nelson

CO-CEO of Blue Print Group

Jean Nelson’s career is a testament to his deep-rooted passion for hip-hop and the music industry. Growing up in Brentwood, Long Island, a neighborhood known for producing legendary acts like EPMD, Rakim, and Public Enemy, Nelson was immersed in a culture of creativity and musical influence from a young age. His journey into the industry started early and helped shape his reputation as a key player behind some of the most influential projects in hip-hop.

Starting out by managing Craig Mack and securing a deal with Bad Boy Records, Jean became part of the label’s iconic rise, contributing to its historic impact on the genre. His ability to spot talent and curate projects led to his role as A&R for Lil’ Kim’s The Notorious K.I.M. in 2000, which catapulted him to further prominence. His expertise continued to grow as he moved through key positions at Atlantic Records, Hip Hop Since 1978, and eventually The Blueprint Group. Along the way, he played pivotal roles in shaping the careers of T.I., Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and many others.

Nelson’s contributions as an executive have extended beyond just A&R work. He helped build G-Eazy into a superstar, working on major projects like These Things Happen and When It’s Dark Out, and has been involved with artists like Marc E. Bassy and Belly. Even as he continues to evolve within the industry, his focus remains on discovering and nurturing the next wave of innovators, making him one of the most sought-after executives in the business.

Jean Nelson’s influence continues to resonate, not only in the records he’s helped shape but in the way he’s contributed to the growth of the hip-hop industry as a whole.
